While many of us came to herbalism later in life, there are those who found the medicine of plants early on–and made learning, using, and sharing that medicine a career. Today we’re talking with Demetria Clark, author, doula trainer, herbalist, aromatherapist, and Director of Heart of Herbs Herbal School about her early awakening to herbalism and the varied path on which it’s taken her.
We discussed an article published on HealthyCures.org in July 2015 entitled, “Scientists from Canada Discovered a Plant that Kills Cancer Cells in 48 Hours.”
Articles we referenced:
University of Windsor’s The Dandelion Root Project.
“The Efficacy of Dandelion Root Extract in Inducing Apoptosis in Drug-resistant Human Melanoma Cells,” on Evidence-based Complimentary and Alternative Medicine Journal in December 2011.
We discussed a question from a listener on nettle harvest.
“Herbalism chose me; I did not choose herbalism. Do you feel this way? A call you need to answer? This is how my journey began as a child.
I started learning about Herbal Healing at a very young age from friends and mentors I had in my youth and childhood. I first studied under a teacher at age thirteen, and I have been involved ever since. Over the years I have formally studied and apprenticed with Rosemary Gladstar (in beginner and advanced training), apprenticed with Jane Smolnik, studied the Wise Woman Way with Susun Weed, and attended workshops given by scores of well-known herbalist from all over the world. I have been fortunate enough to “sit at the feet” of David Hoffmann, Christopher Hobbs, Susun Weed, David Winston, and scores of other amazing teachers. I received my Aromatherapy education from the Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy and Jeanne Rose. Also, I have studied herbalism in the US, Canada, Switzerland, Egypt, Spain, Greece, Italy, Turkey, France, Germany, Ireland, the UK, Mexico, Caribbean, Central American countries and in many other locals worldwide. I have an advanced level of education in Phytotherapy from the UK, Aromatherapy, and Ayurveda.”
