The microbiome has been a hot topic across our culture over the past couple of years. We’ve all heard about how important probiotics are to creating a healthy digestive system too. The options for an average consumer who wants to support gut health have expanded past yogurt. Fermented favorites from a diversity of cultures are now lining the grocery shelves in most towns. Everything from infused vinegars to pickled vegetables to kimchi to kombucha are much more readily available. How does one use these options and what do they do? Yaakov Levine

After many years working in health care and in various capacities in the natural products industry Yaakov Levine received his certification as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner in 2007 from the Nutritional Therapy Association. Yaakov has had his weekly “Nutritionally Speaking” column in a number of local weekly newspapers since 2007, and has had articles published in the Price-Pottenger Foundation Journal, in the Well Being Journal, and the NTA newsletter and Oregon Senior News. His feature and “In Health” articles have appeared in the quarterly Take Root-Willamette Valley magazine. Yaakov brings his passion for empowering others to find their own path towards optimum health to his writing, classes he teaches and his individual coaching sessions. When not working at Natural Grocers, Yaakov can be found biking, hiking and on leisurely walks out in nature.
