Incense for Self-transformation Recipe

incense yarrow

Incense is fun and easy to make. This blend is designed for deep self-transformation. The Palo Santo or Sage help to clear out the old energies, Yarrow, Chicory, and Dandelion to dig deep and heal deeply, and the Frankincense to lighten and create sacred space.

  • 1 teaspoon Frankincense resin
  • 1 teaspoon Dragon’s blood resin
  • 1 Tablespoon powdered Palo Santo bark or 2 Tablespoons dried Sage leaf
  • 2 Tablespoons dried Yarrow flower
  • 2 Tablespoons dried Dandelion root
  • 2 Tablespoons dried Chicory root

  • Mortar and pestle
  • spice grinder/coffee grinder (optional)
  • glass or non-reactive mixing bowl
  • glass or non-reactive container (for storage)

  1. Grind the yarrow, dandelion, chicory, and sage (if you’re using sage) into a powder and place them in the mixing bowl.
  2. Using the mortar and pestle, pound the frankincense and dragon’s blood resin into a powder taking care not to let it overheat, which will cause it to gum or stick to the mortar and pestle.
  3. Add the powdered resins to the mixing bowl.
  4. If you’re using palo santo, add it to the mixing bowl.
  5. Mix well.
  6. Pour the mixture into a glass or non-reactive container for storage or use your incense straight away.

Storage and Use

Store Incense for Self-transformation in a tightly sealed container away from light and heat. It’s best when used immediately and can keep properly stored for a few weeks or more.

You can substitute Myrrh resin or cedar tips for the Frankincense.

To use Incense for Self-transformation, light a charcoal and place it in a fire-safe dish. Once the charcoal has burned long enough to be completely lit and shows a fine layer of gray ash, add a pinch of Incense for Self-transformation. It will smoke and burn immediately. Add further pinches of the incense as desired.

If you prefer burning incense on sticks, you can adhere Incense for Self-transformation to blanks or punks to make incense sticks. See our General Procedures for more information.
