Cannabis makes a terrific topical, especially when paired with Solomon’s Seal. Together, they ease the muscles and tendons and help the body purge inflammation, thus reducing pain while the joints recover. This blend uses a bit of cottonwood or Balm of Gilead both for its anti-inflammatory and its preservative properties. A dash of lavender essential oil is optional – it’ll help relieve muscles tension. Other essential oils to consider include:
- White Camphor
- Cajeput
- Clove
- Cinnamon
Ingredients
- 1 part Beeswax
- 2 parts Cannabis-infused oil
- 1 part Solomon’s Seal-infused oil
- 1/2 part Balm of Gilead or Cottonwood Oil
- 10 drops per ounce (30 ml) total formula Lavender essential oil (optional)
Equipment
- a kitchen scale
- a spatula
- a double boiler
- a glass jar for containing oils during the weight process
- a label
- enough small containers with lids to store finished product
Procedure
- Gather the ingredients along with the equipment in a clean, well-lit, workspace.
- Pour the oils into a double boiler and heat it over medium-low heat.
- When the oil is warm, carefully add the beeswax.
- After the beeswax has melted, remove the double boiler from heat and stir in the essential oil. Note: It is wise to stir the blend until it begins to thicken a little then continue stirring as you add the essential oils. From this point, work quickly as the salve will begin to set rapidly.
- Pour the mixture into a few salve containers and cap them securely.
- Label the containers with the name of the salve.
Storage and Use
Keep your salve handy so it’s easy to use when you most need it. I like a canning jar with a tight-fitting lid kept in a dark place, like the bathroom or dresser drawer. As you rub it into your sore spots, keep in mind that a little goes a long way. Start with a pea-sized amount and add more if needed to cover the area. Re-apply the balm every few hours as needed until the aching eases.
