We take our shower stalls for granted until it’s time to clean them. Then all the soap scum and hard water stains become glaring road maps to a challenging Saturday afternoon with a scrub brush. This work can be avoided by thinking ahead. A regular spritz with a shower spray prevents this mess from adhering to the tile surface and lets it rinse down the drain where it rightly belongs.
At The Practical Herbalist, we don’t stop at preventing a little soap scum. Our formula also contains a blend of essential oils that provide antimicrobial protection.
This formula has two versions: regular and heavy duty. The heavy duty version uses a Four Thieves Vinegar base we rely on as an organic disinfectant. It has antibacterial and antiviral properties. This is an excellent shower spray to use if you’re in the medical field and need a little boost to your immune armor.
Ingredients
- 2 ounces apple cider vinegar (regular formula) or 2 ounces of 4 Thieves Vinegar (for heavy duty formula)
- 6 ounce distilled water
- 20 drops Tea Tree essential oil
- 10 drops Lavender essential oil
- 5 drops Thyme essential oil
Equipment
- measuring spoons
- 8-ounce plastic bottle with a spray top
- a label
Procedure
- Pour the water and vinegar into the bottle.
- Carefully add the essential oils.
- Your mixture will have a little extra room at the top for more formula so add a little extra water to fill the bottle.
- Screw the cap carefully on the bottle.
- Label your final product with the name of the formula and the directions to shake the bottle before using.
Storage and Use
Shake the bottle before spritzing. Do not use this spray on an open wound.
Warning: Keep out of reach of children. Do not spritz the fluid into any one’s eyes or mouth.
Store your spritzer in a glass bottle if possible. Glass is not safe to use in bathrooms with small children or with people who are clumsy like me. You can keep the mixture currently in use in a smaller spray bottle if desired. Essential oil will eventually break down the plastic in the cap, or in the bottle if you use a plastic bottle, so keep your eye on it.
