Candace said: I love how Tilgner has laid out the formulas in Herbal Medicine from the Heart of the Earth. Several times when I’ve been in need, I’ve consulted her work and found exactly what I needed. When I haven’t had one of the ingredients, the information she’s provided on each part of her formula made it relatively easy for me to make a sound choice about a substitute. That makes Herbal Medicine from the Heart of the Earth a good reference for the home herbalist, who may not have the same wide array of herbs tucked away that a pro might have. For one who is well versed in the way doctors think about the body’s systems, Tilgner’s work is very easy to use. The formulas are arranged by body system based on how allopathic western medicine views the body and illness. For the rest of us, this arrangement without a rock-solid index and table of contents is a burden. I wish I could say that Herbal Medicine from the Heart of the Earth had a rock-solid index and table of contents, but it isn’t quite so. Still, when I’ve sought help from Tilgner’s book, I’ve eventually found it, even if it took a bit of page flipping and skimming to get there. All in all, I’m thankful to have Herbal Medicine from the Heart of the Earth on my shelf.
Sue said: I am proud to count Dr. Sharol Tilgner as one of my teachers. She is one of those people that can be honestly referred to as an herbal medicine genius. This book is simply the tip of the iceberg of the knowledge that she has about natural medicine. Sharol knows herbs from the ground up. The directions are clear and concise. Each subject is painstakingly researched. The formulas alone are a blessing in print.
I refer to this book frequently in my own practice. This is not a book for a beginning herbalist. It is intended for those that have a few years tucked under their belts. This is not a book for the intuitive herbalist either. Dr. Tilgner honors the spirit of the herbs but her gift lies in the practical realm. She understands that herbal medicine is a tool that requires the attention of both the heart and the mind. It represents good, hard work. Sharol gives us more reasons to love this work on every page of her self published book. I wouldn’t be without it.
The Bottom Line: We give Herbal Medicine from the Heart of the Earth by Sharol Tilgner two thumbs up.
