Floral Sleepytime Tea Blend

cup of tea

When the wee-one was still wee, we developed this tea blend to help him nod off. It worked like a charm. As he grew, we played with the blend. Lavender is one of the newer additions, for instance. It helps me release the tension that collects in my shoulders and neck. Yep, you guessed it. I take this one to help me sleep as well. What works for children sometimes works well for adults, too. Floral Sleepytime tea sure does.

If you like your tea sweet but want to avoid sugar, a few herbals and others you might try include:

Ingredients

Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 spoon
  • a resealable container large enough to hold the finished product
  • a label

Procedure

  1. Pour the herbs into the mixing bowl and gently stir them with a spoon. Try not to break up the plant parts since this will release the essential oils.
  2. Pour the mix into a resealable container.
  3. Label the container with the name of the mix, ingredients, and date mixed.

Storage and Use

Keep your tea blend in a sealed jar in a cool, dry place, like your pantry. Use the cold infusion or hot infusion method to make your tea using a quarter cup of tea blend for each quart of water. Or, make your tea a cup at a time using a tablespoon of tea for every 8 to 10 ounces of water.

For insomnia or those who have regular sleep struggles, making a ritual of brewing and drinking your tea helps considerably. Brew your tea an hour or so before bed. While it steeps, begin unwinding and preparing for bed. Drink your tea about 30 minutes before you plan to turn in, making sure to give yourself enough time to use the bathroom before bed. Following the same bedtime ritual every night, even on the weekends, will have a cumulative effect; you’ll find it easier and easier to fall asleep and get a good night’s rest.
