Antioxidant Rich Smoothie Blend

blue berries

Research shows that antioxidants are good for us. It’s not clear yet whether antioxidant supplements are healthful, but given how easy it is to eat your antioxidants, there’s no sense in relying on supplements anyway. The key is to have a varied diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. This smoothie blend offers a tasty selection of antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables to help you along.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 2 oz. fresh or canned apple
  • 2 oz. fresh carrots or carrot juice
  • 2 oz. fresh kale or spinach
  • 2 oz. fresh or frozen grapes (red or purple) or grape juice
  • 1 oz. peanut butter or chopped nuts such as almond, Brazil, walnuts, or peanuts
  • 1 oz. honey or yogurt (or a combination of the two)

Equipment

  • A blender
  • Measuring spoons and cups
  • A spice grinder or blender to grind the nuts (optional)

Procedure

  1. Grind the nuts to a powder in the spice grinder if you’re including them.
  2. Add all ingredients to the blender.
  3. Blend until smooth, adding water if the consistency is too thick, or more yogurt or maca powder if the consistency is to thin.
  4. Pour your smoothie into a cup and enjoy!

Storage and Use

Antioxidant Rich Smoothies should ideally be consumed immediately, but I like to store mine in a labelled canning jar to drink at lunch or snack time.

Soy protein powder or Maca powder can be added to give your smoothie more body and make it thicker.

Do you take a few droppers full of tincture or glycerite every day? This is a good mixture to add your daily herbal supplement to while it’s blending.
